Established in 1959, the park was once the hunting reserve of the Scindia royal family of Gwalior. The park is famous for its dry deciduous forests, lakes, grasslands, migratory birds, and growing tiger population. It was recently declared a Tiger Reserve, boosting eco-tourism and wildlife conservation in the region.
